MyCatholicDoctor Academy was founded in 2026 as a natural outgrowth of the nationwide telehealth services offered by MyCatholicDoctor — a physician-led organization dedicated to providing faithful, patient-centered medical care to Catholics across the country.

For years, MyCatholicDoctor clinicians observed a recurring reality in their patient encounters: individuals and families were hungry for health information they could trust — information that did not ask them to set aside their faith in order to understand their bodies, their diagnoses, or their treatment options. They were seeking guidance that spoke to them as whole persons, not merely as patients.

Co-Founder of MyCatholicDoctor, Kathleen Berchelmann MD, and Michele Suhie PhD, Director of Health Education, recognized this need and answered it. Drawing on their deep experience in medicine, education, and Catholic life, they established MyCatholicDoctor Academy as a dedicated home for health education content that is simultaneously rigorous in its science and unwavering in its fidelity to the Catholic faith.

At MyCatholicDoctor Academy, we believe that faith and science are not adversaries. They are, as Saint John Paul II wrote in Fides et Ratio, 'two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth.' Authentic health education must draw on both — the precision of evidence-based medicine and the wisdom of a tradition that has always affirmed the sacred dignity of the human person. This conviction shapes everything we do. Our curriculum is designed to address the whole person: body, mind, and soul. We take seriously the Church's teaching, articulated so profoundly in Humanae Vitae, that the human person is not a collection of isolated systems to be managed, but an integrated unity whose physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions are inseparable. Health decisions are, at their core, moral decisions — and Catholic patients deserve an educational environment that acknowledges that reality with clarity, compassion, and respect. Dr. Kathleen Berchelmann is a physician, author, and co-founder of MyCatholicDoctor, the nationwide telehealth network connecting Catholic patients with physicians who share their values. With decades of clinical experience and a deep commitment to the integration of faith and medicine, Dr. Berchelmann has been a leading voice in Catholic healthcare. Her vision for MyCatholicDoctor Academy reflects her conviction that patients are best served when their caregivers — and their educational resources — understand and honor the fullness of who they are.

Dr. Michele Suhie brings expertise in health education, curriculum design, and the Catholic intellectual tradition to her role as Director of Health Education. As the architect of the Academy's programs, she is committed to developing learning experiences that are not only clinically sound and educationally rigorous, but genuinely formative — courses that inform the mind and strengthen the convictions of the whole person. Her work ensures that every program offered through the Academy reflects the dual standard of Catholic fidelity and evidence-based excellence.
